THANK YOU for being an advocate for opioid recovery!
Thanks to your tireless advocacy, Congress voted to expand Medicare coverage for lifesaving Opioid Treatment Programs! This means that the 300,000 Medicare beneficiaries living with opioid use disorder will now have access to evidence-based treatment. In addition to our main focus of OTP Medicare expansion, AOR advocated for other provisions that were included in the package, in whole or in part. These included:
- Allowing doctors, nurses practitioners, and physician assistants to provide medication-assisted treatment to more patients by codifying rules expanding DATA 2000 prescribers
- Opening the doors to allow providers to treat and prescribe addiction treatment via telemedicine
- Continuing to provide grants to mobilize resources within a recovery community to increase the prevalence and quality of long-term recovery support
- Developing a pilot program to begin addressing the economic and workforce impacts of the opioid crisis
- Funding a demonstration project for enhanced federal matching substance use treatment and recovery services in Medicaid in 5 states
H.R. 6 is a step in the right direction. The bill contained a number of provisions that break down barriers to recovery – but our work isn’t done.
While other advocacy actions are cooking, we encourage you to stay involved with Advocates for Opioid Recovery:
