STATEMENT FROM ADVOCATES FOR OPIOID RECOVERY ADVISORS REGARDING PRESIDENT TRUMP’S EMERGENCY DECLARATION
(WASHINGTON, DC) — Advocates for Opioid Recovery believes President Trump’s decision to declare a state of emergency to combat the opioid crisis is an important one which will result in lives being saved across the country. As we work to address this crisis from every angle, we need all available tools at our disposal, and today’s declaration will ensure the federal government will have the latitude and resources it needs to take on this challenge. Armed with the other recommendations from the Opioid Commission announced last week, this move will allow us to focus on the solutions known to work, and quickly bring them to scale.
The time is now to prioritize and fund evidence-based treatments, and this emergency declaration will allow us to make progress in this area. This should include medication assisted treatments, which are proven to be the gold-standard of care. With 142 Americans dying every day, we can’t wait any longer. We are hopeful this declaration from President Trump will begin to turn back the clock on this crisis, and move more of our fellow Americans into long-term recovery.
